Animal welfare is paramount for the Turner family. The cattle and sheep graze on grass, augmented by barley, hay and grass silage. Nearly all the additional foodstuffs are raised on the Coughton farm. In the winter, the cattle move indoors to sheds, bedding on straw from the farm. The sheep remain in the fields all year round – this gives a delicious flavour to the meat. The Turner family never use growth promoters to bulk up their animals, and antibiotics are only used when absolutely necessary. |
